Default From ELE To Necro

Elementlists are my favorite class in the game, but so some reason I rolled a necro a few days ago.

I'm lvl 18 now in factions, I got so far to the Arbortstone mission.

Now I have no idea how to play necros really and I need some help. I read the guide but still I dont know what to use and what not to use.

If someone could guide me on what type of builds to use to progress as quickly as possible in the story line. Also what armor to use and weapon set.

I'm a really good ele, but thats the only class that i can play LOL.

Go get the quest "seek out brother tosai", then run through wajuun marketplace and do a bunch of quests there to level up to 20. Or maybe level up on wintersday quests (again need something other than factions.) You really ought to be 20 before doing this mission. Also make sure you've bought armor after the starter island. A single bloodstained inscription will help when summoning minions.

What builds you can play really depends on what campaigns and heroes you have avaliable. If you don't have heroes then you ought to be minion mastering, if you do have heroes then curses are a good choice.

OK go and get at least the starter nightfall heroes, as well as olias, THEN level them and yourself up with easy quests like the wajuun bazaar or wintersday ones. If you're having trouble, heroes will make your life infinitely easier, and their builds will be at least as important as your own.

http://www.gwpvx.com has "minion bomber" builds under hero section, you can give that to olias. That will also give you ideas for other hero builds. Then you run a curses build, look for targets surrounded by minions and hit them with barbs/mark of pain. Also use enfeebling blood and basically whatever the rest else you want and you should /win.

Ele is proactive and has a large energy pool with energy management skills (attunement, glyph of lesser energy). Necro is largely reactive, and has innate energy management (soul reaping, Signet of lost souls). The gameplay is a bit different.

Unless you're running Discord or blood, you will not do damage directly.

N/A Assassin's Promise - Vanguard Assassin support, barbs, Mark of Pain, weaken armor, etc.
Orders: you buff all physical damagers, give monk free enchantments for Dwayna's Kiss (D-Kiss) to trigger (typically used with smiting, bloodbond, + foul feast)
Minion Master (MM): uses corpses to create minions , death nova to trigger 100+ armor ignoring damage on minion death
SS: Often used with Echo to do ~33-41ish DPS when targets are attacking or using skills. You want to put this on physicals
Spoil Victor: quick way to take down bosses and monks/healers
Blood spike: Life stealing skills, usually with Lifebane strike

Also PvX moved.

http://www.gwpvx.com/Special:PrefixIndex/Build:N/

N/Mo Smiting is the best physical support in the game other than Splinter Weapon, since you can keep up 2-3 SoH without breaking a sweat provided your team kills things.

N/Mo or N/Rt are your options if you're not running SS.
-------------------------------------------------------
For your armor, use collectors til Kaineng city and buy 60 armor level armor. You don't want to use survivor. Use Tormentor's / Blessed (Orders)/Minion Master's (with Bloodstained insignia on hands/headpiece).

Weapons: you want a 36/36 set (it's 20/20 wand and focus and GW multiplies it doesn't add hence 0.8*0.8=0.64 not half recharge and activation) and a spear/sword/axe of defense (+5 energy) with a shield of fortitude to switch to when not casting

For orders: run spear with 20% enchanting and +5 energy along with 20/20 focus OR Staff with +20% enchanting with adept staff head (20% halves cast time)

Not as important

For death: run 20/20 wand and focus, adept Staff with 20% enchanting if you are running minion bomber
Bring +15/-1 energy swaps for when there's many things dying.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/40/40

You can get 20/20 offhands but wands you need to get from Telamon/Gertrud in Factions or as a green (unique) item. It's best to get the green/collector items since aptitude not attitude (20% halves cast time) isn't cheap.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Caster_weapon ; http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Guide:Necromancer

"Combine a wand with a focus for a "high energy set" with two +15 energy /-1 energy regeneration upgrades. (This combination is usually used as a secondary set, which a caster can swap to when they need extra energy. This avoids the drawback of -2 energy regeneration since you swap back immediately after casting the spell.)"

For my Necro, I either play with minions or with AP.
Minions are essentially automatic - you raise them, then let them loose.
I play AP with Mark of Pain. This synergizes well when I add a hero with minions.

I tend to not play SS much. That really depends on hex placement, and if you miss, it's a wasted spell, unlike MoP which can be recharged with AP if you miss it. Also, SS is really bad when you have a Panic or PI Mesmer on your team.
